After a 14-year gap, Sunderland and Nike joined forces again. The new home strip was a classic design, with a black v-neck and discreet cuffs. The red piping continued from the shorts to the socks – though it meant that larger shorts numbers wrapped around to the back half.
The new away kit was all-white with red trim – being picky, one might have wished for a little bit more black but otherwise it was hard to fault.
With Southampton’s home shirt having a lot of white, the away shirt was unsuitable for the trip to the Dell and so Nike produced a navy version of that shirt. The away shorts were used along with navy socks, though the white set would have worked better against the Saints’ black.
